Ritchey Design Montebello

“The Montebello perfectly represents how a bike’s design is a solution to something greater than achieving forward momentum. Each year Tom Ritchey averages about 15,000 miles in the saddle, which doubles as his “lab” for designing new bikes. During his rides, Tom studied the possibilities for making a more comfortable bike for longer excursions, which resulted in the Montebello, a “go anywhere” endurance road bike.” – Ritchey Logic

Continued from Above:

“Built with proprietary triple-butted Logic steel tubing, the Montebello sports increased stack, a longer wheelbase, and a lower bottom bracket than its Road Logic sibling. Such geometrical choices deliver a welcoming and stable ride when you see the sun set and rise again. Other practical features include fender and rack mounts, which Ritchey fans have been asking for.”

“This unique frameset also includes the new WCS Carbon Brevet Fork designed specifically for the Montebello. With clearance for 40c tires without a fender — or 36 with a fender, this fork has special mounting options for either a porteur or lowrider rack, and threaded drilling in the crown for attaching rack lights. Ideal for long rides, internal Dynamo routing is fast becoming standard among Ritchey adventure forks. And, of course, the Brevet Fork sports the hallmark of Ritchey forks – a 1–1/8th straight steerer for a precise yet forgiving ride experience.”

Growtac Equal Left Shifter (Front Derailleur)
  • Build kit on this Ritchey Montebello is unique. Centered around Growtac’s Equal friction shifters (that resemble Campagnolo 10-speed index shifters), this build combines new and old tech. Derailleurs are retro Suntour XC Pro, with Growtac’s Equal mechanical disc brake calipers handling the chores of braking.

Looking forward to this review! Please comment about how comfy or otherwise the fork is, and I’m interested to see how you get on with the shifters and brakes. (I’m not a fan of friction shifting either, or Ergopower.) And what size are the installed tyres – the labels are too small to read in the pics or video.

Best wushes for your recovery, and jeep up the good work! 😉
