Walkabout in Gainesville, Florida

Long time since the Gainesville Sun was delivered here.

Monday recovery rides are fab.

Monday recovery rides on dirt, limerock and gravel roads are better.

Monday recovery rides on dirt, limerock and gravel roads within the city limits of your town, better again.

OK, there isn’t a whole lot of true gravel within the city limits Gainesville, Florida, but there is plenty of dirt, limerock and almost  no vehicular traffic, if you know where to look.

Terrazzo Floors

Real Terrazzo Flooring.

It’s interesting what you can find when you go exploring.  Granted, I’ve explored a lot of these roads in the past, but I found some new sights today, including some old favourites:

  • Abandoned Bar / Nightclub with original Terrazzo flooring.
  • Derelict house on absolutely primo property, just beyond the sight of a busy road and prying eyes.  In its heyday, this house would have been sweet.  Large three bedroom, two bathroom and two car attached garage.  Unfortunately, decreasing daylight prevented me from snapping any photos.
  • Geezers in the woods downing a 12 pack of horrible domestic beer.
  • Old trails through the woods, seldom ridden by anyone.
  • Limerock roads.

Monday is a great day to ride slow, and notice those things you’ve missed because you’re usually riding too fast.
