For over 40 years, ORTLIEB has controlled how its bags are built — the welding, the closures, the hardware – even the machines with which the bags are built. With TIDURA®, ORTLIEB can now control the material itself. Developed from the ground up and manufactured on the ORTLIEB campus in Heilsbronn, TIDURA® is a proprietary material system engineered specifically to ORTLIEB’s unparalleled manufacturing quality, its welding processes, closure systems, and quality standards.
The TIDURA® line includes two variants of fabrics — TIDURA® strong and TIDURA® core — which debut on a lineup of ORTLIEB’s popular panniers, backpacks, and duffles, as well as one all-new bag. Each product is built on the same principle: fabric, coating, welding, and closure engineered as one system, not assembled from sourced ingredients.

01. TIDURA® Lasts — Built to Endure
ORTLIEB products are engineered for demanding, long-term use. TIDURA® could only be built to that same standard. It’s a TPU coated woven fabric that is engineered for ORTLIEB’s HF-welded seams, which eliminate the weak — and water-access — points introduced by sewing thread.
And, as with all ORTLIEB products, TIDURA® employs a repair-first design philosophy that keeps products in service rather than in landfill.

02. TIDURA® Protects — Stays Dry
Waterproofness at ORTLIEB is not a final step applied or taped onto the product. It’s the construction itself — a standard built into every layer.
TIDURA® products are rated to a 100,000 mm water column — fabric and welded seams included. Protection is specified by product, not assumed:
- IP67 — Full submersion: Dustproof and protected against submersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes
- IP64 — Heavy rain: Dustproof and reliably protected against splash water from all directions
- IP53 — Spray protection: Protected against internal dust buildup and spraying water up to 60 degrees
- 100,000 mm water column: Fabric and welded seams tested to 100,000 mm water column
Closure systems are specified to match: roll closures create a hermetic barrier through a purely mechanical action. TIZIP® zippers — also developed by GDS, like TIDURA® — seal out moisture and dust completely.
High-frequency welded seams fuse material edges rather than sewing them, eliminating the needle holes that compromise waterproofness in conventional construction.
03. TIDURA® + ORTLIEB = Engineered as One
TIDURA® is the realization of decades of design and manufacturing — and of asking the question: “What happens when you own not just the manufacturing, but what it is made from?”
The TIDURA® fabric is woven in Benelux and coated in Heilsbronn by GDS — Gesellschaft für dichtende Systeme — a sister company to ORTLIEB, also owned by Hartmut Ortlieb, operating from an adjacent facility at Rainstraße 8. That’s “Rain Street.” ORTLIEB’s production facility has long been at Rainstraße 6.
