OPEN Cycle launches the OPEN W.I.D.E. 2.0: 66mm of Clearance & Plenty More

“Ten years ago at SeaOtter, OPEN launched the first performance gravel bike. That U.P. launch was probably the most exciting we’ve ever done — media, product managers from other brands and loads of riders crowded our tiny booth. We explained that the U.P. gave you the rider position to go fast (like a road bike) and the tires take care of the terrain”. It sounds so logical today, but not 10 years ago. Not to mention the dropped chainstay, the direct-mount brakes without any adaptors and the dual wheel size options.”

“This year we’re back at SeaOtter with the WI.DE. 2.0. Where the U.P. (and now U.P. 2.0 and U.P.PER. 2.0) are built for fast gravel terrain, the WI.DE. is built for terrain most people wouldn’t consider rideable at all. The goal is the same: keep the rider fast, let the tires handle the trouble. The original WI.DE. took off far beyond our expectations — turns out there are a lot of bad roads, and a lot of people who want to ride them fast. Time for V2.0.”

It Starts With The Tires

As always, we start with the tires. The WI.DE. 2.0 fits up to 700x66mm (29×2.6″) — as good tires in bigger sizes (both gravel and XC MTB) are becoming more plentiful in the market.

Going from 50mm to 66mm nearly doubles the air volume inside the tire. Use that volume to protect your rims from rocks and roots, to lower pressure for more grip, or both.

Fitting tires this size into a compact, stiff and agile frame was a challenge. The result is marginally lighter than its predecessor and handles even more extreme terrain.

Double Chainstay Drop

The original U.P. introduced the single dropped chainstay. The original WI.DE. doubled down with a carbon box structure behind the BB for clearance and stiffness. The WI.DE. 2.0 takes this further still — by designing specifically around modern gravel drivetrains and dropping compatibility with older setups (e.g. 2x), we’ve maximized the space for tires and chainstays to create even more clearance.

U-Turn AC/DC+ Fork

Where the U.P.|U.P.PER. 2.0 offers separate aero and cargo forks, the WI.DE. 2.0 combines both into one: the U-Turn AC/DC+ (Aero Cargo Double Combo). At this tire volume, one fork can do it all — so you get full aero plus our patent-pending cargo slots in a single fork.

As with our other cargo forks: strap bags directly to the fork legs, no cage required. Prefer a cage for water bottles or specific cargo? Use the included cargo barrels.

More Storage

The WI.DE. 2.0 has the most cargo-carrying options of any OPEN to date. Cargo slots on the fork, direct-mount frame bag compatibility (custom bag makers supported; OPEN aero frame bag coming Fall 2026), and two storage bags inside the downtube, secured with the Fitlock© locking mechanism.

Additional rivnuts under the BB, two on the toptube just behind the stem for a toptube bag, and — if you prefer a full-length toptube — a third rivnut near the seattube for added stability. Standard and custom toptube bag options will be available.

A.I.R. Geometry

The WI.DE. 2.0 follows the OPEN A.I.R. philosophy: agile, integrated, refined. The steering geometry keeps handling razor-sharp — with your eyes closed (not recommended!) you might think you’re on a road bike, not a bike running 66mm tires. Frames are slightly longer and taller than their predecessors, paired with the OPEN B.A.R. system to easily dial in your perfect fit.

Made in Freedom

Like all OPEN 2.0 products, the WI.DE. 2.0 is part of our Made in Freedom project. A few years ago we decided that freedom needed to permeate everything we do — because for us, freedom is the essence of cycling. We moved all production to countries that score well in established democracy rankings (The Economist Democracy Index, Freedom House’s Freedom in the World report).

We know this topic has many angles, and that’s fine. We do this because we want to, and because we have the freedom to choose. This isn’t a virtue competition — everyone should run their lives and businesses as they see fit. We just know how we want to run ours. The WI.DE. 2.0 frame is built in Portugal.
