Furthermore, weight and volume reduction have been achieved with technical and production process advancements. These and other advantages may be found in the Super Record 13, which represents the top configuration of the new development platform for future Campagnolo solutions. It is not only the world’s first wireless 2×13 speed derailleur for road cycling, but also the first groupset starting a general redefinition of the brand’s identity, a new strategy in line with Campagnolo’s legacy of innovation, which in the near future will witness the Vicenza-based company launch a complete line of products designed to cover the various market segments.

A new chapter in the history of Campagnolo begins but one that has deep roots, and more precisely dates back to 1973, the year in which the Super Record was born and would from then on write some of the most iconic pages of the history of modern cycling. With over 50 years of history, the product born in the factories of Vicenza became synonymous with technical excellence and Italian style.

And Campagnolo continued to offer that extraordinary product range in the years that followed, standing as a point of reference for the entire industry and being the first company in the world to use a 10-speed, then an 11-speed and later a 12-speed groupset in road cycling. Today, in the wake of this tradition of absolute innovation, Campagnolo launches a world premiere: the new Super Record 13, the first road groupset equipped with a 2×13 derailleur. A completely redesigned solution dedicated to those seeking maximum performance, innovation and style.

This means much more than adding an extra sprocket: it is a new way of conceiving performance. The Super Record 13 represents the top configuration of the new development platform for future solutions by Campagnolo, the first groupset starting a general redefinition of the brand’s identity, a new strategy in line with Campagnolo’s legacy of innovation, which in the near future will witness the Vicenza-based company launch a complete line of products designed to cover the various market segments, a wide-ranging structured development. A platform that is the result of a completely revisited production process aimed at containing costs due to significant investments in component automation and optimization: a deliberate corporate choice to reposition the company’s product range in the groupset world, naturally Made in Europe.

The new Super Record 13 provides accurate, silent and immediate shifting, even at high power levels, and completely renewed ergonomics for the controls. Today, it is the fastest on the market, capable of offering a greater choice of gear ratios that allow you to find the best pedaling cadence. All of these are features destined to become the new benchmark in terms of performance, as already recognized by professional cyclists who compete in the World Tour with Campagnolo-equipped bicycles.

New Super Record 13: New design, new ergonomics of the controls and ease of use

The cassette with an extra gear

Thanks to the experience of the 13-speed Ekar gravel groupset, Campagnolo has reduced the distance between the sprockets and decreased their thickness, so as to house an “extra gear” in the same step and offer a complete set of ratios with a more homogeneous progression since the gear spacing is now very close.

The journey that led Campagnolo to this solution began last season, when the new chain and gear sizes were tested and approved by professional cyclists who used them in training and in competition. Campagnolo’s involvement in racing and with athletes for the development of products and new solutions is in the brand’s DNA and has once again been a key part of the innovation process.

Smooth transitions in the set of ratios and the resulting reduction of jumps between gears, allow the athlete to maintain the best cadence in every situation. Being able to manage your effort maximizes performance and finding the right cadence makes the difference between an effective and satisfying action and a tiring and disappointing experience. The usual Campagnolo N3W standard has been adopted as the space of the sprocket cassette has remained unchanged without the need for a dedicated body.

Four variants will be offered, two of which starting with a 10-teeth sprocket and two starting with an 11-teeth sprocket:

  • 10-29 (10/11/12 – 13-14-15-16-17-18 – 20/23/26/29)
  • 10-33 (10/11/12 – 13-14-15-16-18-20 – 23/26/29/33)
  • 11-32 (11/12/13 – 14-15-16-17-18 – 20/23/26/29/32)
  • 11-36 (11/12/13 – 14-15-16-18-20 – 23/26/29/32/36)

A truly wide range that, combined with the four cassettes, represents the most complete and well-structured offer available on the market today. The cranks, in exposed carbon fiber, are available in the lengths of 165 mm, 170 mm, 172.5 mm and 175 mm and have a Q Factor of 148.5 mm. The two titanium bottom bracket semi-axles are integral with the crank arms (Ultra Torque system).

Power Meter Option

To ensure greater flexibility, cranksets and chainrings will be available separately on the market. The entire system is available with or without power meter. The strength of Campagnolo’s HPPM power meter, “High Precision Power Measurement”, is the absolute precision of its continuous detection every 5 milliseconds, thanks to sixteen sensors that cross-reference the power in N/m in real time – detected with multiple sequential readings – with the angular velocity of the integrated gyroscope. This process provides unequivocal accuracy of results and stands as a benchmark on the market.

Derailleurs, changes here too

Both derailleurs have been completely redesigned. The front one has a lighter design, a new carbon fork with a wider chain draft range, with a capacity that now goes from 29 to 55 teeth. The battery housing in the front part guarantees more clearance for the rear tire. The new engineering of the front derailleur, in its structure and components, guarantees a smooth motion in both directions even when the chain is under stress and heavy traction.

The battery, housed on the front, ensures a 750-km range (in normal conditions of use) and can be recharged directly on the bike or removed to be easily recharged anywhere with a normal USB socket and its dedicated charging cable. A full recharge is completed in one hour (but in just 45 minutes you can already reach 90%) and the system status is displayed by a single colored LED. The rear derailleur has been redesigned and streamlined: it has now undergone a 25% reduction in lateral bulk compared to the previous 12s model.

A Record rear derailleur

The strength of the new Super Record 13 lies in the chain motion path along the gear scale: it has been optimized in order to obtain the most immediate, smoothest and fastest gear change possible. Which means that, in completing the entire scale, the new Super Record 13 is faster than any 12-speed gearbox, which has one sprocket less, on the market today.

The two pulleys of the derailleur cage have been increased to 14 teeth with a differentiated profile: the larger diameter reduces friction between the chain links as they pass through the derailleur cage and on the bearings which, in the upper guiding pulley, are made of ceramic to eliminate any drag and enhance the precision of the chain motion. The lower tensioning pulley is designed for efficient performance over time as the kilometers go by. Two frame engagement options: one with the new original Campagnolo UDH dropout by direct assembly and the other one via a fixing link for traditional dropouts.

Ergopower: So many new features at your fingertips

Together with the thirteenth speed, the Ergopower levers represent the greatest revolution brought by the new Super Record, so much so that the new design allows cyclists to have full control over their ride and quicker access to the accessory functions both in high grip, in advanced position, and in low grip. Not just an exercise in style but a true change to provide a new experience when you are in the saddle.

The new groupset is compatible with the most popular bike computers and with all devices equipped with the ANT+ protocol and Shifting Profile 2.0 function. The control also allows you to view the battery status, customize the gear change and adjust the positioning of the chain.

Hand rest comfort

The new design ensures greater control of the ride and better access to accessories in the various hand rest positions on the handlebars. Uninterrupted lines have been ensured between the bend and the support base of the Ergopower. A flat and wide support surface has thus been created, ensuring a safe, comfortable grip even after many hours in the saddle.

The support itself has been freed from the hydraulic tube which now fits directly into the caliper and no longer into the Ergopower: a new construction standard that facilitates both the assembly of the component and the removal of the handlebars when necessary for bike transportation purposes.

Great attention has also been paid to the new design of the brake lever, now entirely carbon-printed: it has been shaped so as not to interfere with the space under the support. Now, it can be operated effectively even from a high grip without your fingers getting in the way. The fulcrum point has been optimized to obtain even more progressive and powerful braking.

Furthermore, the lever’s distance from the handlebar bend is adjustable, thus ensuring an effective grip to anyone regardless of hand size: the micro-setting adjustment of the reach and the clean lines under the support provide a firm, safe grip with which to effect accurate gear changes and operate the brakes powerfully and progressively. It has been designed to be tilted up to the maximum degree of closure allowed by UCI regulations.

Brakes: More powerful but lighter

Campagnolo braking systems are known to be among the most efficient on the market and the Super Record 13 disc brake is no exception. The brake body is made of forged aluminum and has two new titanium retention screws which reduce the overall weight of the component (-6 g).

The pads are available in two versions: organic and a new sintered version. The latter provides longer durability in wet conditions or low temperatures. Both compounds work on a sound-absorbing blade that reduces vibrations and have a large friction area to ensure enhanced heat dissipation, limiting the risk of compound vitrification. They are equipped with a wear indicator, which allows you to monitor their wear status.

The discs are available in sizes of 160 mm (with seven engagement points on the spider) and 140 mm (six engagement points). They have been designed with an anti-cutting profile and temperature control system. The special floating C3 slot ensures compensation for any deformations due to disc expansion caused by high temperatures. The “Disc/Pads” system works with tolerances to one-tenth of a millimeter and the accuracy of the calibration ensures a prompt response with the proverbial Campagnolo efficiency.

More than one extra sprocket. The essence of performance

After the prototyping phase, the new Super Record 13 groupset was fine-tuned together with the pro athletes of Team Cofidis, a World Tour team, gathering very positive comments and feedback right from the start of winter tests, especially in terms of shifting precision and speed under stress, available gear ratios and ergonomics of the levers. In view of use during races, the pro athletes enthusiastically welcomed the new solutions, which are so advanced as to make any comparison difficult: which further confirms the extraordinary potential of the new groupset.
