A new four-segment gravel race debuts May 31, supporting the Dirt to Snow – Mark Satkiewicz Legacy Fund
Outlaw Gravel debuts in Steamboat Springs on May 31, 2026, offering a fresh take on gravel racing in Colorado. The enduro format features four timed gravel segments where riders race all-out for the clock, connected by untimed roads that allow participants to take in the scenery of Routt County and ride alongside fellow competitors. The event begins and ends at historic Olympian Hall.

In its inaugural year, Outlaw Gravel is intentionally limited to 300 participants – a deliberate decision to deliver a safe, thoughtfully produced, rider-first experience. By keeping the field small, participants can expect a relaxed start-line atmosphere, smooth race-day flow, and a more personal competitive environment than larger mass-start events. Registration is currently open at outlawgravel.com, and organizers expect the first-year field to sell out.
Riders may choose between a 66-mile course featuring four timed segments or a 44-mile option with three timed segments, competing solo or as part of a two- or four-person team. The structure shifts the advantage toward strategy over sheer strength, rewarding riders who know when to push and when to hold back.

The final timed segment delivers a finish line sprint at Olympian Hall, creating an exciting, spectator-friendly atmosphere as racers push for one last effort. From there, riders roll directly into a high- energy post-race celebration featuring locally made burritos, cold beverages, and a Steamboat rock band playing hits from the 80s to today. The thoughtfully produced finale gives participants a chance to recharge, connect with new friends, and celebrate a full day on the gravel.
“This is how we ride during the week. Hard efforts on the right roads, then roll together, socialize a bit, and prepare for what’s next. It’s competitive but grounded – an ideal early-season format for riders building toward longer races that go full gas from the start,” says Garett Mariano, founder of Outlaw Gravel.
Built in the Heart of Colorado’s Gravel Country
Steamboat Springs has become one of the most recognized gravel destinations in the country, fueled by Routt County’s extensive road network and a deeply rooted cycling culture. Outlaw Gravel builds on that foundation while offering a distinct competitive experience that blends intensity, strategy, and community.

Honoring the Dirt to Snow – Mark Satkiewicz Legacy Fund
Mark Satkiewicz, the visionary behind SBT GRVL, played a defining role in shaping modern cycling culture in Steamboat Springs and elevating the town onto the international gravel calendar. A passionate husband, father, mentor, and leader, he made Steamboat a more welcoming and inclusive place, championing equality and expanding opportunities for women in sport and professional spaces. Outlaw Gravel honors that legacy by donating a portion of event proceeds to the Dirt to Snow – Mark Satkiewicz Legacy Fund, supporting bike and snow sport access for Routt County youth.
